What is dance to you?

Every dancer has been asked this question a several times.

I never really knew how to answer this question. I never seemed to understand how people would answer it. People often thought that I lacked confidence and just danced to show my talent. I didn't want to follow everyone's footsteps. I didn't want to reply the same way everyone else did. I wanted to be different. I wanted to change the perspective of dance in everyone's life. We all are dancers. What ever we do includes an element of dance. Its just that some people turn this everyday routine into a masterpiece of art. I wanted to be one of them. I wanted to be stunner. But I always seem to lack something in my dance. I was always a reserved person. I never really opened up to many people. I guess it was because of this that I lost many chances to prove myself. But what dances means to me no one will ever know. I dance for myself. For the sole purpose of just happiness. Its my only companion during my bad days. Its all I ever think I will  be capable of. My life runs on the thought that dance will always be there for me. It's like friend I can always trust. It's like a part of me that will never die.....

Contemporary -Expression of emotions beyond words

Its the 2nd most practiced dance form in the world. Its contemporary. It is that form of dance which lets you express your feelings by letting yourself loose.Contemporary requires you to feel the mood of the dance and  the passion present in it. It is a mixture of ballet and modern dance. This form can be done as a solo , duet act or a group act. Costumes for contemporary as usually very simple as the dance focuses more on the expressions, movement and dance than the colors and costumes. Its classic and simple nature leaves the audience awestruck. Here are a few techniques that may help you learn this beautiful form of dance-

Tap dancing - Magic with your feet

This isn't any ordinary form of dance. It is the art of your footwork. Everything in this form is done with the foot. Although many people may not be aware of this style of dance , it is practiced in many countries these days and has become a popular trend. World Tap dancing day is celebrated on 25th may every year. The most important is the tap dancing shoes. Common tap dance steps inlcude - shuffle , flap heel , buffalo , cramproll , maxi ford , wings , new yorkers , chugs , drawbacks , stomps , brushes , scuffs , hot step , heel click , spanks , cincinnati , the shim sham shimmy etc. I end this paragraph by quoting Terrence Taps " Tap dancers keep time while others waste it  ".
